Frequently Asked Questions
These racing ignition switch panels are designed for standard 12V DC electrical systems, making them ideal for race cars, track cars, RVs, off-road buggies, and marine applications.
The red "aircraft-style" cover is a crucial safety feature. You must flip the cover up to turn the toggle switch ON. In an emergency, simply slapping the red cover down will automatically push the toggle switch to the OFF position, allowing for a rapid system shut-off.
Because custom vehicle builds require different wire lengths and routing, most of these panels are designed for DIY installation and are not fully pre-wired. They typically come with the necessary jumper wires and crimp terminals so you can create a custom harness that fits your specific build. (Note: Certain kits, like our 5-in-1 panel, do include a pre-made wiring harness and relay).
The red push button is a momentary switch designed to trigger the starter. However, starter motors draw a massive amount of current. You should not wire the starter motor directly to the push button. It must be wired to trigger a starter relay or solenoid to prevent melting the switch and ensure safe operation.
Typically, the main toggle switch with the red cover is wired as the main "Ignition/Power ON" switch (energizing the vehicle's electrical system). The momentary push button is used to crank the engine. The additional toggle switches (ACC1, ACC2, etc.) are used for accessories like fuel pumps, cooling fans, or auxiliary lighting.
Yes, they are commonly used in track/race cars where the factory keyed ignition cylinder and steering wheel lock have been removed. As the panels are labeled "For Racing Use Only," they do not have built-in anti-theft key mechanisms.
